How to Wear a knit

AW17 has no lack of great knits in a wide range of variety, offering both classic wardrobe staples and bolder, more daring styles. Whichever item you choose to go with, though, it can be tough to style your knits in new ways, and not just falling back into the same-old outfits.  If you haven’t already, invest in a high-quality, timeless knit - the investment might be tough on your wallet, but the return makes it worth it. It’ll last you season after season, and can be used in a wide range of ways in your outfits.

When opting for more classic knitwear styles, layering is key. Layer a light cashmere or merino crew neck knit over a collared shirt, and chuck on a pair of tailored pants, a blazer and a pair of leather shoes for a classic, sharp look – but remember, don’t be afraid to mix it up either. Lose the blazer and swap the shoes for a pair of sneaks for a casual, everyday look. A chunky, heavier knit can also easily be layered over a classic shirt, and remember that more casual knitwear can also easily be styled with a pair of dressier trousers.

Another knit style that offers a wide variety of styling options is the roll neck. Thick knits with large, rolled collars have really made their way onto the AW17 scene, in a wide variety of colours, weave and patterns, providing easy sources of detail.

Don’t let the high neck keep you from layering, though; a thin roll neck sweater can successfully be layered under a collared shirt, or even another knit – be it one with a round neck, or a zipthrough or button-down cardigan
