A SPECIAL WEEK IN COPENHAGEN

Copenhagen, August '25

You don't know me, you don't know why you ended up here, but you should read until the end !

My role at Stoy sits somewhere between men's styling, writing these, and making the internet shop look good !

Also, it's only my third time in Copenhagen ever, so i'm quite the rookie and don't know anything.

Excitement hit the day my boss, Rasmus, first told me I was going to Copenhagen for the opening of our new store. He told me months before the opening, so the thought had lived in my head for months, like a song you can’t stop thinking about.

Tina, Victor, and I had booked the ferry there long before going,  so when we sat down on the ferry on Sunday afternoon, the plan was coming to life. Just when we thought we had our seats all to ourselves, three people sat down next to us — no big deal, right? We’re all civilised people. But one of them, the youngest, turned out to be something of a miracle man. The whole ride, we overheard him talking about all the bones and fingers he’d broken and healed… by praying. Ferry rides really are a simulation.

THE NEW STORE

Seeing the store for the first time was sick - energy levels were high all around, and we were excited to open. Meeting the new team in Copenhagen was great — what a bunch of cool people. It didn’t take much longer than ten minutes to feel welcome in Copenhagen.

Victor and I were sharing a room, but imagine the look in our eyes after opening the door, immediately locking eyes with a twin-size bed with a single pillow and duvet, knowing we were spending the next five nights there.

The next day started perfectly: I bought a Phoebe Philo shirt, and the first thing I did while wearing it was getting rid of the mountain of trash in our backyard. It only took an hour, three back-and-forth trips, and we photobombed the same two girls’ breakfast photoshoot every single time — a scene that sums up Copenhagen during fashion week pretty well (and probably most other days, too).

It was such a good time being in the new store that even I dared to go out on the shop floor. Something I’ve never done before and something I had never been ready to do. I felt anxious like always, but I went out there on my second day there and actually had too much fun. Mind you, I didn’t really sell anything, so a store full of myself would do pretty terrible, but luckily, my colleagues are good at their job !

THE BIG DAY !

THE BIG DAY !

Wednesday, the 6th

We were hosting a small event from 5-7 PM for the opening of the new store and the launch of our new book THINKINGS, Stoy’s first printed work in almost 10 years.

None of us knew what to expect, or how many people would show up.

Sofie Liv had everything planned (almost) to a T: negronis, wine, and of course Ceres top — BEERS, for all of you internationals reading this. De fire maver ( “the four stomachs” — guess how many in the band?) played jazz, and Bar moro kept glasses filled behind the bar. No less than Sebastian, Victor, and I were going around serving. It took a couple of beers while serving to get my autism warmed up, but eventually I got there !

It felt like everyone was there — customers, buyers, and a lot of people from the industry.

Of course, I can’t pick any favourites… but being a long-time Throwing Fits listener, Jimmy and Larry were definitely up there. I introduced myself — something I hate doing to anyone not from Denmark or Sweden, because Jeppe seems impossible to pronounce. Jimmy did okay (he landed on “Juppe”), but Larry was, if I’m being honest, pretty hopeless - he thought my name was Humid..

I told them, “Just call me John, much easier.” No — they landed on Jup-Jup. - They did shout me out in their latest podcast, as Jup-Jup and the acoustic sales associate — so I’ll take it. Everything comes full circle ! Menswear OG Nick Wooster also showed up, and I had the pleasure of talking to him for a short while. I was standing next to another OG, photographer Adam Katz — fun story, I first met Adam in Paris back in January when I asked to take his picture for our Paris blog post. Somehow, five minutes later, I found myself in his Paris Airbnb, with him gifting me a t-shirt about Aarhus and Danish Designer Arne Jacobsen.

We ended up extending the music from De Fire Maver for an hour because of the successful turnout - thanks everyone !

THE RIGHT WAY TO END

Anyways, the day ended with what felt like an obligatory team dinner and a round beerpong with co-founder and OG, Torben Støy !

THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM

My third time in Copenhagen was the biggest success yet. For many reasons: I met my new colleagues from across the country, worked the sales floor for the first time (actually sold something), met some cool people from the industry, got another stupid but fun nickname, bought a Phoebe Philo shirt, but most importantly i got to be part of something special !
