AURALEE SS27 RUNWAY NOTES
COLOUR, COLOUR, COLOUR.
AURALEE SS27 WAS JOYFUL, FULL OF EASE, AND VERY HARD NOT TO LOVE.
My first Auralee show, and one I’d been looking forward to a lot. Presented outside the Odéon Theatre in the middle of Paris’ heatwave. A perfect setting for a collection like this. Auralee has always been good at making clothes feel calm, elevated, and lived-in all at once, but this collection felt especially joyful. It was playful ! And playful is fun. And fun is good ! I loved the smaller details: crocheted horses hanging from the models’ mini leather bags, beaded necklaces, ankle bracelets, thin beaded laces and belts- little touches that gave the whole thing a nostalgic summer feeling.
Backstage, founder and designer Ryota Iwai explained that the collection was built as a three-part story. It began with that very specific end-of-June feeling, when your mind is already on holiday even if your body still has a few days - or weeks - left at the office. The opening looks reflected that perfectly: easy, fluid tailoring and desk-appropriate summer clothes that still felt impeccable, but already mentally checked out. As the show went on, the collection gradually let go of that formality. Models appeared in striped fitted T-shirts, loose trousers, shorts, leather sandals, colourful printed shirts, sunglasses, even towels and swim trunks layered underneath - now fully in holiday mode.
By the final looks, the styling leaned into the idea of what you bring back with you. Beaded necklaces, ankle bracelets, small crocheted charms hanging from bags - small details that felt like souvenirs picked up somewhere warm. You don’t come back changed, but renewed !
But now I’m excited for the showroom, and to see and feel everything up close. Au revoir !
