The Birkenstock name has always been on the forefront of footwear comfort. Johann Adam Birkenstock, the first in a long line of German cobblers, began repairing and making shoes all the back in 1774. Since then knowledge has been passed down through generations, ultimately resulting in the, more than iconic, Birkenstock sandal.

They come in many different shapes, materials, and iterations, but there is never a shred of doubt, whether looking at or wearing Birkenstock, that these are a masterclass in footwear comfort and ease. Some might discard the shoe as kitsch sandals for old German guys, but people who pay attention know that Birkenstock has gloriously reclaimed its' rightful place as a go-to fashion item for both men and women. Collaborations with brands like Proenza Shouler, Stüssy, Valentino, and Rick Owens merely underscore its' current cultural currency.

Their core product is their anatomically unique footbed - a concept they introduced in the 1930s. The footbed is their shaped insoles, created to ensure stability and comfort. It consists of a cork and latex mixture, two natural layers of jute fabric, and suede lining. Later, the soft footbed was introduced, which includes all the original layers added an extra layer of foam padding, which makes the sandal even more comfortable. Birkenstock repeatedly creates iconic and recognizable sandals, which simply emphasize -comfort is cool!Especially models like Boston, Super Birkis, Kyoto, and Arizona, both for men and women, are a great example of how comfort, function, and quality can easily go hand in hand with a cool and modern look. The Arizona model even remains unchanged since its introduction in 1973, which simply clarifies how the sandals survive the constant changes in the fashion industry, and today appear as a true classic for a timeless and functional wardrobe.
